camp hope curriculum finalized

At this time, you should all have the entire 2009 Camp Hope Curriclum pieces. if not, please email me today so I can get them to you (neil@camphopeministries.org).

It's also time to write and mail confirmation letters to your campers.  Include welcome, dates, outstanding fees and details about your program, especially Monday registration day.

Then organize your camp office with all of your supplies, first aid station, etc.  (see the Making Camp Hope Happen checklist for a complete list).

Next, if you have not already done so, prepare your staff for the staff training.  You will want to have a time when all of your staff and adult mentors can come together to talk and answer questions about what will be happening in the coming weeks.

Finally, plan a time when your camp staff can be commissioned in Sunday worship.  This is a wonderful way to raise up Camp Hope once again to your congregation.  This may be the largest community outreach that your congregation does and it is vital that you cover the students and adults in prayer!

God’s blessings to you this year at Camp Hope!!!!

Houston Base Camp Training

We are excited to see many of you at Lutherhill for Base Camp June 5-7. The training team is working hard to bring you new information and a wide variety of speakers. We are also blessed this year to share our training time with the staff from Lutherhill. This means our staffs will interact and share some training sessions to learn from one another. What a great way to share our ministries!

A few reminders about our time together:

  • Everyone must bring a completed individual registration form to camp
  • Each church is asked to bring snacks to share with the group. These snacks will be available during the training sessions.
  • Don't forget to pack for camp! This means closed toed shoes, water bottles, sleeping bags, toiletries, towels, flashlights, bugspray, sunscreen, and comfortable clothes. You may also want a sweater for indoor learning.
  • Every person must come with a completed Camp Hope notebook.

You will find a schedule of our time together below. If you have any questions, contact Kristen at kristen@camphopeministries.org

Thanks!

Kristen

Camp Hope is coming up quickly!!!

You should be finishing up in collecting your supplies for Camp Hope including any orders for craft and game items as well as the Camp Hope store.

You should also be placing your t-shirt orders so that you will have time to organize them before your campers arrive. (It’s sooner than you think!)

Review the camper registration forms to ensure that they are filled out in their entirety.  Begin to group these by age for camper small groups.  Then make a master list of any health care or emotional care needs.  This will be very helpful for your adult mentors and rotational leaders as they learn and plan activities, snacks and games specific to your Camp Hope.  Also design a Camp Hope database of all of your campers and staff information. Use this to create spreadsheets for sign in sheets and Monday camper registration days.

Train the Trainer

It appears that the weather for this year's Train the Trainer in Bellville, TX will be warm and wet.  Forcasts call for low 60s to upper 70s along with thunderstorms, so you might want to pack a rain poncho to bring along.  See you all this weekend!

Getting Ready in April

You should now have a good idea of your staff.  Make sure that you have also set up adult mentors for your staff members.  Look at the post from last November about how to set up a mentoring ministry at your congregation.  In order to have spiritual children and youth, we MUST have spiritual adults!  This is why having an adult mentor to walk along side of them throughout Camp Hope is vital for the success of your camp and to help your students grow in their own spiritual maturity.

You should also gathering supplies that you will need for this year’s Camp Hope.  Look through the curriculum and identify items that you could collect form donations to keep the cost of your camp most effective.

Look at your facilities and consider any repairs that need to be make in order to provide for a safe environment inside and out this summer.  Meet with your congregational leaders to ensure that this will be completed.  Then look at how you will be utilizing your facilities for rotational learning and places for your small groups to meet.
